Terms of use
How you may use these materials
The templates, figures, and tools on this site are free for practitioners to use inside their own organizations. They are not free to resell, republish, or deliver as part of paid client work. This page says exactly where that line sits, in language you can hand to your legal team without a translation layer.
The short version
One question decides it
Is someone paying you for work that uses these materials? If yes, you need a commercial license. If you are using them to run identity at your own organization, you do not, and you never will.
Using them where you work
Download, fill in, adapt, and keep them. Change the fields, the terminology, and the structure to fit your systems. Share the filled-in results with colleagues, auditors, and leadership. Use them to train your own staff. Adapt them into your internal standards and keep those permanently.
“Your own organization” means the entity you work for and its subsidiaries. Drawing a salary does not make this commercial use. Neither does being an internal consultant, an architect, or a contractor embedded on one client’s team and working on that client’s own program.
Using them to deliver paid work
Consultancies, managed service providers, systems integrators, advisory firms, and independent consultants using these materials in client engagements. Delivering them, or deliverables built on them, as part of a paid service. Including them in a product, platform, or paid course.
Also licensed, whatever the setting: removing or replacing the attribution, republishing or mirroring them anywhere else, offering them for download, or selling them in any form, adapted or not.
Detail
The particulars
Attribution
Leave the credit line on the artifact where it appears. If you rebuild something from scratch based on the model rather than editing a file, credit it in your own document: “Based on The Modern Identity Operating Model by Becky Sandberg (beckysandberg.com).”
The figures
The figures are meant to travel. Use them in presentations, papers, lectures, and internal training, including at conferences, as long as the credit stays with them and the artwork is not altered. Putting them in something you sell, including a paid course or a client deliverable, needs a license like everything else.
The book
The Modern Identity Operating Model is separately protected. Nothing on this page grants any right to reproduce chapters, the glossary as a whole, or substantial parts of the text. Quoting a passage with attribution, as you would any book, is fine.
The interactive tools
The predictability assessment, the gap map, and the where-to-start worksheet run entirely in your browser and collect nothing. Use them as often as you like, for yourself or with your own teams. Embedding them in a product or a paid service needs a license.
No warranty
These are templates and reference material, not advice. They do not know your environment, your regulators, or your risk appetite. Identity, security, and compliance decisions remain yours. Everything here is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and nothing on this site is legal, regulatory, or professional advice.
Getting a license
Firm-wide licenses are available for consultancies and for enterprise programs that want rights beyond internal use, including rebranding and use with clients. Tell me what you would use them for and roughly how many people would be working with them, and I will come back with terms.

These terms apply to material downloaded from beckysandberg.com. They may change for future downloads, but a change never reaches back: whatever terms applied when you downloaded a file continue to apply to that copy.
